Create Cozy Corners
A beautiful book, a comfy seating dotted with interesting accents – your own private retreat in your home is a beautiful creation – somewhere where you can lose yourself in a cuppa chai and soft lilting music. We believe that the charm of doing up your home is not only in creating the big picture of opulence, but also in creating small cosy nooks which translates into your own personal space.
And the best part about cozy corners – is that they can be comprised of anything that you deem cozy. There are no rules – you could drag out a vintage rocking chair, drape it with a throw accentuated by soft cushions or go all out and bring home a beautiful chaise lounge …or simply take out a comforter from your linen cupboard – prep it up with a vibrant cover and pillows and you’ve got your own retreat in your home.
The beginning
Check out the available spots in your home – tiny little alcove in your living room, a spot in your terrace garden, a corner in your kitchen, a niche in your bedroom, a space on your balcony – a space which appeals to your senses. Once you have identified a spot, decide how you are going to treat it. The rule of thumb is to make it cozy, warm and inviting.
Make sure this space lets you do your favorite activity in perfect posture – to stretch your legs and catch the latest episode of Master Chef or just recline and read your favorite book. A huge window alcove off the dining room can be converted, with a simple two-seater table and some pretty plants into a breakfast corner.
A white painted wicker round table with two matching wicker chairs, and a bright red checked table cloth can create a country garden feel. A distressed wooden table with coordinated chairs creates a warm and rustic Mediterranean feel to the corner. Couple this with white washed walls and plenty of fresh flowers for an ideal way to start your morning.
The furniture in that area has to suit what you propose to do there – a stylish magazine holder for your latest issues, a table to prop the Bose speakers or to hold your drink & snack bowls.
Use pillows, cushions, and bean bags to create soft spaces and a warm feeling. Make it clutter free or as cluttered as you like, so long as you have a personal order in that space.
Decorate the area with accessories that define your style and interest – classy photo frames showing off your professional clicks, collectibles from your travel, a stylish bookend to hold your latest reads. Area rugs can soften hard floors which add to the soft and comfortable surroundings.
Ensure that there is good lighting for reading.
If you want to lend a dreamy quality to your corner, accent it with curtains and canopies.
Create a library – books, music cds or simply your art work if that is your calling – the idea is to create a nook which mirrors your soul.
Accentuated with a mirror and a few bric-bracs, the soft velvet in pastel shades creates a surreal feel to the corner beckoning you to lose yourself in its fold.
It’s simply delightful what a dash of colour can do to your living space. Make it cozy, sexy and inviting – it’s the area where you can lounge with a great book and a glass of wine or simply reach out to your sketch pad and charcoals. Deliciously inviting!
