Glam up your home in this moody Monsoon
Monsoon is here! Where we do prefer enjoying the rains outside but this season it’s time to celebrate monsoons inside too. Believe it or not, a classy and contemporary monsoon makeover is not only about improving the aesthetics of your place, but also to add a touch of comfort and ease to your living spaces. Here are a few ideas that will help to brighten your gloomy monsoon at home.
The monsoon season is in full swing and for city-goers, it unleashes a plethora of emotions, including relief (from the excessive heat) and romance. But it can also get all moody and grey around us. However, you can always drive away the dreariness, if you transform your interiors into a cosy, vibrant monsoon refuge without burning a hole in your pocket. Says luxury interior designer “As they say, the devil is in the details! So, start with paying attention to minute nuances like sound, fragrance and textures.” With the WFH-trend going strong, home-office spaces are turning out to be a priority when it comes to doing up the interiors in this season. “People do require multiple work areas, desk lights, chairs, and quiet areas,” says luxury interior designer . Here are a few décor ideas that can help...
Comfort still rules
Consider using a shag rug or faux sheepskin throw for the most luxurious seat in the house. Sink into the soft and rich texture and enjoy a comforting cup of hot chocolate or tea.
Make a flowery impact
Grow a green hub during this season and introduce some fresh flowers and ornamental plants into your living space for that tropical and refreshing vibe. Invest in brass planters that can double up as centre pieces as well.
Use peripheral illumination
With monsoon’s overcast skies, natural light is an issue even in the most well-lit homes. Light up the dark corners with floor lamps in gold, copper and brass to add a peripheral illumination that brightens the entire room.
Accent pieces are important
Using bright colours, they help you stay awake and keeps lethargy at bay, says experts. Raghav Gupta, home decor professional and director of an ecommerce decor store, elaborates, “An accent piece is a great way to add a fun piece to your space. Stress can sneak up on you, but the good news is that you can keep your stress levels low simply by using the right colours in your home. You might not even notice it, but your body and mind reacts to colours.”
Bright colours are in
A pop of colour is a quick-fix on dull, rainy days. Experiment with bright coloured or bold printed cushion covers. Use bright yellows and greens to complement the lush greenery visible from your windows and draw the freshness of nature indoors.
Don’t ignore the fragrance
Along with the pleasant petrichor scent associated with monsoon, the season also brings in a musty smell due to fungal infestation. So don’t forget to enhance your surroundings with lemongrass, apple cinnamon or lavender fragrant candles or diffusers.
Invest in a good chair
The WFH-drill can cause you to get casual or comfy about your lack of office setup at home. However, too much lounging around on the sofa while working can cause pain in the lower back and other aches. Instead invest in a good chair, which can perk up the interiors, too. Raghav says, “Avoid getting too cozy or comfy when working from home. Invest in a good office chair, a desk and maybe, add a fashionable cushion to go along with that.”
ADD SOME COLOR TO YOUR PLACE
Colors have a positive impact on each one of us. And when it’s gloomy and dark outside, only a bright warm light will not be enough to lift the mood. This year fill your heart with bright accents to relive your living spaces. Vibrant hues of living corals, pink or even yellow can accentuate your space as well as your mood. Let’s turn the home décor with a little twist to welcome rains with a splash on colors.
A FUNCTIONAL DÉCOR
A new season calls for new furniture but moreover functional furniture or décor. Can think of getting a new coffee table to indulge at home for a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. Or how about getting cozy lounge chairs. Add pop up the bright color with cushions, bright cups or synthetic curtains to make it breezy and airy. Accessories furniture which will add to your home décor and will be useful to indulge indoor this rains.
THE RIGHT HOME ACCESSORIES
After bright summer, rainy seasons are cool but gloomy also. You tend to feel lazy, and not to go outside. But even at home, you feel all dull. Then why not add something shimmy to your place like a huge antique mirror which will even make your place look spacious. Add some candle stands; vintage lamps etc. make your place rejuvenating this season.
FRESH GREEN HOUSEPLANTS
While heavy rains cancel your plans to go out. Now you can enjoy freshness at home with all the green lively plants which you get to see outside. Now you can have them for home décor with a cup of coffee and a book. Plants make your room lively and fresh and you have a range of indoor plants to choose from like the usual succulents, ZZ plant, snake plant or even the money plant, you can even get your outdoor plants in. Like some of the ferns, peace lily, etc. which does not need much water.
CARE FOR FURNITURE
Monsoons make everything around more greener and beautiful to look at. But the humidity during the rains gives us a headache to manage wooden furniture. For worrisome solution, it’s always good to keep furniture fresh with oiling and waxing in advance and by ensuring your interiors are well ventilated.
Let’s plan monsoons at home this year with bringing in the new and enhancing the old furniture to the living space. So, avoid whites and beige instead go for bright furniture. Let’s plan to stay back and dodge the rains this season.
TRY THESE DIY IDEAS:
Throw in some bright colours to lift your spirits. Take one of your old large and sturdy serving trays, add legs with wheels below the tray and paint it in vibrant colours. Voila, you have a portable table!
Cut a nice old sari/s, in mid-to darkish colours, i.e. maroon or royal blue into a square. Stitch up the borders, add fringed lacing or beads around the edges. Place it on your lit-up desk light holder — the soft light can double-up as a diffuser and transform the room.
Pull out an old brass utensil, turn it around as a base to keep a potted plant in. The brass planter and the plant will add a creative and natural touch to your surroundings.
If you are lucky enough to have a balcony, make this a place to work out. Invest in natural khus chic blinds to keep out the heat and rain even as it spreads a natural fragrance to the surroundings.
